Ilford Table Tennis League - Cup Competitions 2011/12

To ALL Club Secretaries

All Cup Competitions

It is the responsibility of the home team to contact the away team to confirm the date of the match. (Failure to communicate could end up in the match being voided and both teams being disqualified).

Players must play in strict ranking order. A player playing for a team in any one competition is cup-tied to that team for that competition (Rule 18d), there are four separate competitions in total. Please ensure that ALL team captains have a copy of your club’s ranking list.

Deadlines for rounds are as printed on the draw. Note: For the first half of this season we have swapped the Handicap and Divisional Cup Weeks as published in the handbooks - this gives us a few more results on which to base the handicaps

Winning teams are responsible for ensuring that the result card reaches the Competitions Secretary by the deadline. Cards can be scanned / photographed and sent by email, but please keep the original card in case of a subsequent query.

The scorecards will be sent to you one for each match in each competition, For knockout matches each team should take a card to the match, where only the home team’s card will be completed on the night. The away team’s card should be given to the winning team, for use in the next round. Please contact the Competitions Secretary or access the website for details of your next-round opponent.

To qualify to play in the Final of any competition, each player must have played a minimum of six league matches for that team. Qualification for previous rounds is determined by the key number shown in the handbook fixtures and on the draw.

Please note that the home team will play as ABC and the away team will be XYZ. Please ensure that the winning team’s name is entered at the foot of the card.

Divisional Cup Competitions

This season The Division 2 Cup will be played on a round-robin basis with Semi-Finals and a Final.

The Division 1 & 3 Cups will be played on a straight knockout basis.

All Divisional Cup matches will be the best of five games up to 11 points with deuces, as per league matches.

Handicap Cup Competition

The Handicap Cup will be played on a knockout basis and will comprise of four games up to 11 points (i.e. maximum 44 points, no deuces), all four games must be completed.

On the scorecard the respective starting Team Handicaps should be written above the ABC / XYZ columns. For each match the first four columns will show the result of each of the four games, the fifth column should total the points for that match and are then added to the total handicap in the final column, showing a running total.

In the event of a tie in the team with the higher handicap figure, i.e. the lower rated team, shall be adjudged the winner (Rule 18e).

Note that 18 Teams have entered the Handicap Cup this season, so we need to eliminate 2 teams before the first round. There aren't enough allocated Cup weeks for the extra round, and I don't want to hold up the whole competition on 7th Nov. for the preliminary matches.

So w/b 7th Nov six of the eight 1st Round matches and the two preliminary matches will take place. The other two 1st Round matches will need to be played w/b 12th December, along with two of the Quarter Finals. I'm then hoping the other two Quarter Finals can be played Jan-Feb during one of the other Cup weeks!? If necessary we can catch up at the end of the season.
